Primary teachers do not often have the luxury of lesson breaks that high
school teachers enjoy, where students change classrooms. Having a repertoire of
short, fun activities to give students a chance to stretch their legs, interact
and refresh their minds is a vitally important part of your bag of tricks. One
of my old favourites is teaching kids to juggle. Students keep three small bean
bags or juggling balls in their desk. When students are looking like they need a
break, get them to stand
and practise their juggling for 2 minutes. I also break up lessons by
introducing a few Pilates and Yoga exercises that don\'t require too much space.
If you have 10 minutes to kill, try the Greedy Pig game with Year 4 up. I hope
these activities give you some ideas
